Workers Ask For Wages To Increase 25 Percent, Garment Industry In West Java Threatened To Bankruptcy PDF Print E-mail

The Government has determined that  increase in Provincial Minimum Wages (MSEs) is determined at 8.03 percent. But some workers reject that increase. One reason is that the determination is based on Government Regulation 78/2015.


Among the trade unions, which filed for the prosecution of a 2019 UMP increase of 25 percent, wanted the determination based on Law 13/2003.


In response,  Chairperson of the Provincial Management Board (BPP) of Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo), Dedy Widjaja, considered that prosecution of 25 percent wage increase was make heavy condition, especially for labor-intensive industries, especially garments.


According to Dedy, currently the West Java garment industry is in a very heavy condition.


So that it is not surprising in last two years,  determination of wage value of this sector has also been applied specifically where  value is below city district minimum wage (UMK).

Pemerintah sudah menetapkan bahwa kenaikan Upah Minimum Provinsi (UMK) ditentukan sebesar 8,03 persen.


Namun sebagian kalangan pekerja menolak kenaikan itu. Salah satu alasannya adalah penetapannya berdasar kepada Peraturan Pemerintah 78/2015.


Kalangan serikat pekerja, yang mengajukan penuntutan kenaikan UMP 2019 sebesar 25 persen, ingin penetapannya berdasarkan UU 13/2003.


Menanggapi hal itu, Ketua Badan Pengurus Provinsi (BPP) Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (Apindo), Dedy Widjaja, menilai bahwa penuntutan kenaikan upah 25 persen sangat memberatkan, terutama bagi industri padat karya, khususnya garmen.


Menurut Dedy, saat ini, industri garmen Jabar dalam kondisi yang sangat berat.


Sehinga tidak heran jika dalam dua tahun terakhir, penetapan nilai upah sektor ini pun diberlakukan secara khusus di mana nilainya di bawah upah minimum kabupaten kota (UMK).
