Eco Fashion Week Indonesia (EFWI) eco-friendly fashion week for the first time was held with the aim of preserving the wealth of Nusantara textile arts that adopted environmentally friendly methods. Merdi Sihombing said, the first eco-friendly fashion week was in Indonesia and Asia.

One of the eco-friendly fashion shows is New Faces. This label uses tencel fiber (organic silk from wood fiber) from the Austrian fiber producer Lenzing Group. A total of 30 local and international designers are involved and apply the renewable fashion concept. Merdi explained, the designers applied recycling or organic and natural materials to minimize the carbon footprint. "We carry on sustainable fashion that reduces the impact of environmental destruction," he said in Jakarta, Friday (30/11). EFWI is expected to become a fashion reference for the Indonesian people through ethical works made directly by people in disadvantaged areas. One of them is Alor tie weaving and Rote Ndao tie weaving. "In this inaugural event, we held a workshop on natural coloring of Alor tie weaving," he said. He explained, the exhibition became a reference for the textile industry because there were still many who did not carry out environmentally friendly practices. He revealed, more than 200 international clothing manufacturers in Indonesia exploit water sources. Bad factory waste has an impact on the environment, especially water pollution. Merdi also hopes EFWI will be a stepping stone from the long journey that Indonesia needs to take in implementing the slow fashion concept. Not just environmentally friendly, the concept seeks to preserve the cultural heritage of making natural textiles typical of the archipelago. "EFWI is eager to launch a movement that can make big changes in Indonesia," he said. Marketing Manager of a company that imports tencel fiber material Mariam Tania explained, the tencel fibers presented were certified. In fact, the production is monitored, so that it certainly does not disturb the environment. "We collaborate with 15 young designers and educate environmentally friendly fashion," he said in Jakarta,
