Indonesia Becomes a Manufacturing Investment Destination PDF Print E-mail

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto stressed that Indonesia is still the main destination for investment, especially in the manufacturing sector. "In the era of Mr Jokowi's administration, in the Cilegon cluster, there were already several additional investments. For example, Posco and Krakatau Steel amounted to USD3 billion and some time ago Lotte conducted a ground breaking worth USD3.5 billion. So, in terms of the mother of industry, we are getting stronger, "he said, as copied from an official broadcast.

The Minister of Industry also hopes that effort is expected to give the effect of confidence to other investors because it is done before the political year. "This means that investors no longer need to wait, that Indonesia's economic and political conditions are considered stable. Now, this is the opportunity for Indonesia to continue to spur investment, "he added.

As of December 2018, investment in the non-oil and gas industry is estimated to reach Rp226.18 trillion. In addition to growing the industrial population, investment can deepen the domestic industrial structure so that it acts as an import substitution.

Along with efforts to boost investment, the Ministry of Industry accelerates the development of industrial estates outside Java with the aim of encouraging infrastructure and economic equality throughout Indonesia. In 2019, it is targeted that 18 industrial areas outside Java will be completed. As of November 2018, as many as 10 industrial estates including national strategic projects (PSN) are already operating.

The Minister of Industry added, after aggressively carrying out various infrastructure developments throughout Indonesia, the government of President Joko Widodo will run a program to improve the quality of human resources in 2019 with more massive. In this case, the Ministry of Industry also focuses on organizing vocational education and training programs in SMKs and polytechnics that link and match industry.

The Ministry of Industry projects a number of manufacturing industry sectors to experience growth due to the momentum of the 2019 General Election. In fact, some investors still believe they are investing because they see political and economic conditions in Indonesia which are considered stable ahead of the political year.

To that end, the Minister of Industry believes, the implementation of the Legislative Elections (Pileg) and Presidential Elections (Pilpres) held simultaneously on April 17, 2019, will also run safely and peacefully so as to support the economy in order to realize public welfare. "So, we have to be more optimistic, including the industry players, so we can take the opportunity," he said.

Airlangga said, one of the strong catalysts that was able to boost industrial growth next year, especially the soaring consumption of food and beverages (mamin) and textiles and textile products (TPT). "These commodities are generally needed a lot during the campaign season," he said.

The Ministry of Industry noted, in 2014 with the momentum of elections, the processing industry rose to 5.61 percent compared to the previous year's achievement of 5.45 percent. The sectors supporting the surge include the mining industry, the textile industry, and the leather, leather goods and footwear industries.

"The current economic conditions are indeed far different compared to the 2000s. That is, there is a new norm reality. The current world economic growth is no longer double digit, "he explained.

Indonesia Disebut Tujuan Investasi Manufaktur

Hingga Desember 2018, investasi industri nonmigas diperkirakan mencapai Rp226,18 triliun.
