Elections Momentum but The Upstream Textile Industry is Believed Still Lack Passion PDF Print E-mail

The upstream textile industry this year is not expected to be very enthusiastic despite momentum of the general election.


Redma Gita Wirawasta, Secretary General of the Indonesian Association of Fiber and Yarn Producers (APSyFI), said the growth of domestic textile consumption is estimated to be only 4% or the same as condition in 2018. This is partly due to economic growth which continues to be around 5%.


"The import has not yet been addressed, so there is no bright spot. In terms of elections, the possibility is not too uplifting," he said recently.


Redma explained in this year's election, procurement of campaign attributes, such as t-shirts and banners, was handed over to each legislative candidate. In previous elections, it was part of the duty in procuring campaign attributes.


Thus, if the candidates feel that the campaign attributes are not too important, then the demand for textiles for the election will also decrease.


In the midst of stagnant conditions of domestic demand, the association continues to voice the control of imports that can be done, one of which is to restore the rules on imports of textiles and textile products returned to Permendag 85/2016 and the implementation of trade remedies.


Ada Pemilu Namun Industri Tekstil Hulu Diyakini Masih Kurang Bergairah


Industri tekstil hulu pada tahun ini diperkirakan tidak begitu bergairah kendati ada momentum pemilihan umum.


Redma Gita Wirawasta, Sekretaris Jenderal Asosiasi Produsen Serat dan Benang Filament Indonesia (APSyFI), mengatakan pertumbuhan konsumsi tekstil dalam negeri diperkirakan hanya 4% atau sama dengan kondisi pada 2018. Hal ini salah satunya disebabkan pertumbuhan ekonomi yang terus berada di kisaran 5%.


"Impornya juga belum dibenahi, sehingga belum ada titik terang. Dari sisi pemilu, kemungkinan tidak terlalu mengangkat," ujarnya belum lama ini.


Redma menjelaskan pada pemilu tahun ini, pengadaan atribut kampanye, seperti kaos dan umbul-umbul, diserahkan kepada masing-masing calon legislatif (caleg). Pada pemilu-pemilu sebelumnya, partailah yang bertugas dalam pengadaan atribut kampanye.


Dengan demikian, apabila caleg merasa atribut kampanye tidak terlalu penting, maka permintaan tekstil untuk pemilu pun akan berkurang.


Di tengah kondisi permintaan domestik yang stagnan, asosiasi pun terus menyuarakan pengendalian impor yang bisa dilakukan, salah satunya dengan mengembalikan aturan impor tekstil dan produk tekstil dikembalikan ke Permendag 85/2016 serta penerapan trade remedies.
