Iwan Setiawan Lukminto, Boss of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk. (Sritex), applies four leadership concepts - pioneering, harmonizing, empowering and role models - that are aligned with employee profiles from across generations, the dynamics of national and global business, and the latest textile industry business. Iwan said that the four leadership concepts were applied in leading Sritex, which employs 50 thousand employees.

 

"These four concepts are implemented, but empowerment and role models are more prominent. I gave more examples and brought new thoughts in the organization, and tried to get new ideas from colleagues. Then, I held a discussion forum that gave many solutions and ideas for each individual, "said Iwan explaining his leadership style at Sritex.

 

As the second generation of the integrated textile and textile product business, Iwan realized that the challenges of the textile business in the present are very different compared to the past. He challenges employees to produce innovative products, channel fresh ideas in running a business, capture export opportunities, and develop the latest technology in the company.

 

Iwan's hard work was realized in various elements, including by adopting high-tech machines that increase productivity and efficiently. Regarding the VUCA era - Volatile, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity - Iwan sees it as a business challenge that can have a positive or negative impact on entrepreneurs. He also saw the positive side of VUCA which had an effect on the development of technology that could save costs and time. "After all, now we are entering an era of instantaneous. This greatly affected all industrial sectors, including textiles. Market demand is increasingly complex and changing faster. "The only way to win business competition in this era is to move one step faster than the other," explained Iwan.

 

So, Megawati Budiono's husband initiated a work culture that was adaptive to technological developments. Iwan's strategy like that succeeded in increasing Sritex's business growth. The performance was lifted by the company's turnover which reached US $ 763.9 million, or 33.41% growth compared to the third quarter of last year ...

 

"For 2018, we are targeting growth of 12-15%, but for the first nine months our business growth has been higher, which is above 30%, despite external factors, such as weakening of the rupiah and the ongoing trade war between the US and China, "Iwan said.

 

Iwan targets Sritex turnover in 2018 worth US $ 1.04 billion and net profit of US $ 84 million. The target is expected to exceed last year's revenue and net profit of US $ 759.35 million and US $ 68.03 million respectively.

 

 

Sritex: Adaptif, Bergerak Cepat, dan Tingkatkan Inovasi

(Sritex), menerapkan empat konsep kepemimpinan --perintis, penyelaras, pemberdaya, dan panutan-- yang diselaraskan dengan profil pegawai dari lintas generasi, dinamika bisnis nasional dan global, serta bisnis industri tekstil terkini. Iwan menyebutkan, keempat konsep kepemimpinan itu diaplikasikannya dalam memimpin Sritex yang mempekerjakan 50 ribu karyawan. “Empat konsep ini diterapkan, tapi pemberdaya dan panutan yang lebih menonjol. Saya lebih banyak mencontohkan dan membawa pemikiran baru dalam organisasi, serta berusaha mendapatkan ide-ide baru dari kolega. Kemudian, saya mengadakan forum diskusi yang memberi banyak solusi dan ide bagi setiap individu,” tutur Iwan menerangkan gaya kepemimpinannya di Sritex.

 

Sebagai generasi kedua bisnis tekstil dan produk tekstil terintegrasi itu, Iwan menyadari tantangan bisnis tekstil di masa kini sangat berbeda dibandingkan masa lalu. Dia memberikan tantangan kepada pegawai untuk menghasilkan produk yang inovatif, menyalurkan ide-ide segar dalam menjalankan bisnis, menangkap peluang ekspor, dan mengembangkan teknologi termutakhir di perusahaan.

 

Kerja keras Iwan itu diwujudkan dalam berbagai elemen, di antaranya dengan mengadopsi mesin berteknologi canggih yang meningkatkan produktivitas dan efisien. “Saya selalu mengarahkan karyawan untuk mempraktikkan etika yang sesuai dengan budaya kerja Sritex,” kata kelahiran Solo, 24 Juni 1975, ini menegaskan. Dia berpendapat, peremajaan teknologi dan peningkatan kualitas SDM betujuan meningkatkan daya saing Sritex di industri tekstil nasional dan global. “Bagi perusahaan tekstil seperti kami yang selalu compete dengan perusahaan global, hal itu menunjang pencapaian finansial sehingga Sritex kini dapat disebut sebagai ‘One Billion Dollar Company’. Tapi, tentu semua ini tidak akan ada yang tercapai tanpa arahan dan visi dari almarhum ayah saya, Pak Lukminto,” Iwan menuturkan.

 

Perihal era VUCA --Volatile, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity-- Iwan melihatnya sebagai tantangan bisnis yang bisa berdampak positif atau negatif kepada pengusaha. Dia pun melihat sisi positif VUCA yang berefek kepada pengembangan teknologi yang bisa menghemat biaya dan waktu. “After all, saat ini kita memang memasuki era yang serba instan. Ini sangat berdampak terhadap seluruh sektor industri, termasuk tekstil. Permintaan pasar semakin kompleks dan berubah semakin cepat. Satu-satunya cara untuk memenangi kompetisi bisnis di era ini adalah dengan bergerak satu step lebih cepat dibandingkan yang lain,” Iwan menerangkan.

 

Maka, suami Megawati Budiono ini menginisiasi budaya kerja yang adaptif terhadap perkembangan teknologi. “Saya meresponsnya dengan beradaptasi dengan keadaan dan mencari cara baru, yakni meningkatkan inovasi. Mentransformasi SDM lebih ke wirausaha yang menjadikan side income bagi mereka,” tutur pengusaha yang hobi membaca dan jalan-jalan ini.

 

Strategi Iwan yang seperti itu berhasil meningkatkan pertumbuhan bisnis Sritex. Simak saja, laba bersih perusahaan berkode SRIL di Bursa Efek Indonesia ini pada kuartal III/2018 senilai US$ 70,5 juta, naik 49,3% dari laba bersih di periode yang sama tahun lalu. Performa itu terkerek oleh omset perseroan yang mencapai US$ 763,9 juta, atau tumbuh 33,41% dibandingkan dengan kuartal III tahun lalu..

 

“Untuk tahun 2018, kami menargetkan pertumbuhan 12-15%, namun hingga sembilan bulan pertama ini pertumbuhan bisnis kami lebih tinggi, yaitu di atas 30%, meski ada faktor eksternal, seperti pelemahan rupiah dan trade war yang sedang terjadi antara AS dan China,” ungkap Iwan.
