Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that footwear manufacturers with the brand "Nike" would divert part of their orders to Indonesia.

"I have met with Nike and others, they will divert some of their orders to Indonesia," Airlangga said in Jakarta.

The Minister of Industry added, they (Nike) had conveyed their intention to fill demand. "For that, Nike will provide opportunities for Indonesia," he explained.

According to Airlangga, so far Nike has also produced shoes in Indonesia. However, due to an increase in demand, the amount of production will be added from Indonesia.

Previously, the Director General of the Chemical, Textile and Multifarious Industries (IKTA) of the Ministry of Industry Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono dismissed the news regarding Nike's suspension of sportswear orders for 19 garment companies or apparel manufacturers.

"We have confirmed directly to Nike in Singapore. What is clear is that there is no reduction in Nike orders in Indonesia," Sigit said.

Besides that, Sigit added, his office ensured that Nike continued to order sportswear from garment companies or apparel manufacturers in Indonesia.

"I guarantee that Nike will not reduce sports apparel orders from the 19 factories," said Sigit.

As is known, some time ago there was news on social media that Nike stopped ordering sports clothing from 19 garment companies or apparel manufacturers in Indonesia. As many as 35,000 employees are reportedly threatened with layoffs.

Sebanyak 35.000 karyawan dikabarkan terancam PHK.
