China Will Invest Rp 10 Trillion in Textile Sector to Indonesia PDF Print E-mail

Tensions between the United States (US) and China, finally impacted Indonesia. In the near future, the Bamboo Curtain country will invest in Indonesia worth around IDR 10 trillion in 2019.

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto said investment in the textile sector was aimed at developing the midstream sector, such as spinning, weaving, dyeing and printing.

The entry of the investment, according to him, is supported by the existence of a trade war between two superpower countries, the United States and China.

Later, it appeared that a number of manufacturing companies from bamboo curtain countries were willing to move their production base to Indonesia to avoid high tariffs imposed by the US.

"Some global textile and footwear industries are considering moving factories from China to Indonesia," Airlangga Hartarto said

To that end, Airlangga said the government also continues to create a conducive investment climate and provide convenience in the business licensing process. That way Indonesia can become one of the main destination countries for investors, one of them is from China.

In addition to investment in the textile sector, Airlangga said that China had also built new industrial estates in Central Sulawesi. The investment that has been disbursed over the past five years is US $ 5 billion. Exports from the region have reached US $ 4 billion.

According to Airlangga, in addition to the addition of new investments, the US-China trade war also has an impact on industry players in Indonesia to boost their utility or production capacity in an effort to fill the export markets to these two countries.

"We have exported steel to the US, so we hope that we can include more of these products," he said.

In January-November 2018, Indonesia's iron and steel exports to the US surged by 87.7 percent compared to the same period the previous year. While Indonesia's total exports to the US were recorded to grow 3 percent in the same period.
