The Ministry of Trade's Director General of National Export Development (PEN), Arlinda, stated that the Republic of Indonesia and the United States are committed to increasing the trade value of each country.

"Indonesia and the US have the same desire to improve trade relations," Arlinda said in the Indonesia-USA Business Matching event held at the Indonesian Consul General in New York, United States.

Arlinda when giving a speech at the event explained in the period January to October 2018, trade between the two countries increased 2.6% compared to the same period the previous year.

According to him, at this time there was also an increase in corporations from Uncle Sam's country who wanted to invest in Indonesia. The Director General of National Export Development also stated that in order to show the seriousness, in the context of the Minister of Trade's visit to the US, his party brought in entrepreneurs from around 15 companies.

As proclaimed, Indonesian Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita welcomed 70 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United States by initiating the visit of Indonesia's 2019 trade diplomacy to the United States.

"This work visit as well as trade mission is carried out because the US is one of the most important countries in Indonesia's export destination and a source of foreign investment at this time. Through this working visit, Indonesia continues to maintain an open dialogue to strengthen trade and investment partnerships with the US, "explained the Trade Minister.

The Indonesian business delegation that accompanied the Minister of Trade's working visit this time consisted of entrepreneurs who were interested in developing exports and imports with the US, as well as investing both in the US and in Indonesia. This is a continuation of a working visit in July 2018, in which the Indonesian Minister of Trade and US Trade Minister Wilbur Ross, among others, agreed to increase two-way trade from the current USD28 billion to USD50 billion.

A number of Indonesian businessmen who will participate in this trade mission, among others, are engaged in the sectors of palm oil, aluminum and steel, marine products, soybeans and wheat, cotton and textiles, coffee, car tires, gold and jewelry. In addition, the Management of Palm Oil Plantation Funds, the Association of Indonesian Palm Oil Companies (Gapki), the Indonesian Biofuels Producers Association (APROBI-IBPA) and the Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (GIMNI) are also participating.

As is known, the total trade between Indonesia and the US reached USD25.92 billion, a surplus for Indonesia amounting to USD9.7 billion. While total trade in the past five years showed a positive trend of 0.39%. In 2017, the US is the second non-oil and gas export destination after China with a value of USD17.1 billion. While Indonesia's main export products to the US include shrimp; natural rubber; footwear; tires, and women's clothes.

Previously, Enggartiasto Lukita stated that there had been progress in the discussion regarding the application of the "Generalized System of Preferences" (GSP) facilities for trade facilities by the United States.

Indonesia-Amerika Sepakat Tingkatkan Nilai Perdagangan

Direktur Jenderal Pengembangan Ekspor Nasional (PEN) Kementerian Perdagangan Arlinda menyatakan Republik Indonesia dan Amerika Serikat berkomitmen meningkatkan nilai perdagangan masing-masing negara.

Sebagaimana diketahui, total perdagangan Indonesia-AS mencapai USD25,92 miliar, surplus untuk Indonesia sebesar USD9,7 miliar.
