Manufacturing Exports Projected to Increase 7.5% PDF Print E-mail
Written by Maizer
Wednesday, 06 February 2019

The government targets non-oil and gas processing industry exports to grow 7.5% in 2019. Improved manufacturing performance, strengthening of the main export market, and penetration into non-traditional markets are the focus of the government to hoist exports.

This was conveyed by Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto. The target is pegged after considering global economic growth of 3.7% and the existence of 12 trade agreements that will be completed this year.

He explained, manufacturing industries that contribute up to 74% of the export value must be encouraged to strengthen non-oil and gas exports. Therefore, export-oriented industries need to be encouraged to improve the structure of the economy.

"So, in 2019, we will further boost the industrial sector to increase exports, especially those with more capacity. It is hoped that there will be an improvement in the global economy, so as to encourage even higher non-oil exports in 2019," Airlangga said.

He explained, the government would boost the performance of five leading sectors on the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map.

According to him, the five sectors are the food and beverage industry, textiles and clothing, automotive, electronics, and chemicals.

The five sectors are recorded to contribute 65% to the total value of national exports, contribute 60% to gross domestic product (GDP), and absorb 60% of all industrial labor.

In addition, other sectors that have great potential to develop are the jewelry, machinery, furniture, fish processing and horticulture industries. The sectorors recorded export performance which was considered capable of supporting the national economy.

Airlangga said, based on the president's direction, the quality of export products will continue to be boosted and high-value-added products must be boosted by performance. The government will try to attract investment and carry out downstreaming to substitute imported products.

"Other policies in the context of increasing export competitiveness in the next 1 to 3 years include improving the business climate through online single submission (OSS) systems, tax incentive facilities, vocational programs, simplifying procedures to reduce export costs, and selecting commodities superior, "he explained.

Based on data from the Ministry of Industry, exports of non-oil and gas processing industries have increased in the past 4 years. In 2015, the value of manufactured exports reached US $ 108.6 billion and rose to US $ 110.5 billion in 2016.

Then, in 2017, the value of manufacturing exports increased to US $ 125.1 billion and continued to increase to US $ 129.9 billion last year.

Ekspor Manufaktur Diproyeksi Naik 7,5%
