The national textile and textile products industry is targeted to enter the ranks of the world's top five by 2030, where the industry is being prioritized as a pioneer in the roadmap for implementing the fourth industrial revolution.

"This sector whose performance continues to rise, especially through its export achievements. Especially the sarong industry, the government has given full support to domestic producers," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Airlangga Hartarto.

In this case, the Ministry of Industry will develop the potential of sarongs as a new lifestyle for the people of Indonesia.

"In March 2019 a sarong festival will be held. Moreover, we have various motive advantages from various regions in Indonesia," he said.

The Minister of Industry believes that the domestic textile industry is capable of being competitive globally because it has high competitiveness.

This is encouraged because the industrial structure has been integrated from upstream to downstream and its products are also known to have good quality in the international market.

"Therefore, the government continues to spur the performance of the textile industry. Moreover, this sector is classified as labor-intensive and export-oriented so that it contributes significantly to our economy," he said.

Several strategic steps have been prepared so that the national textile industry can enter the digital era. For example, for the next 3-5 years, the Ministry of Industry will focus on boosting the ability in the upstream sector to increase synthetic fiber production.

Efforts made, among others, to collaborate or attract investment in fiber-producing companies. "It also aims to reduce imports," said Minister of Industry.

Then, encourage the use of digital technologies such as 3D printing, automation, and internet of things. This transformation is believed to optimize efficiency and productivity.

"So, we will build an integrated textile industry cluster with 4.0 industrial connected technology," he added.

Furthermore, the Minister of Industry stated that along with economic growth and the shift in demand from basic clothing to functional clothing such as sportswear, the national textile industry needs to build production capabilities and increase economies of scale in order to meet the demand for functional clothing in the domestic and export markets.

At present, the government is also trying to make a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement with the United States (US) and the European Union (EU) to expand the local textile export market.

Because, TPT products of neighboring countries such as Vietnam can enter the US and EU markets with zero percent import duty rates, while Indonesian textile product export duties are still subject to 5-20 percent. "For that, there needs to be a bilateral agreement," said the Minister of Industry.

Indonesia bertekad jadikan industri tekstil lima besar dunia

Kemudian, mendorong pemanfaatan teknologi digital seperti 3D printing, automation, dan internet of things.
