The textile and textile products industry in West Java has deteriorated. This was triggered by high worker wages, competition with imported products, to the potential cost of waste management.

Based on data from the West Java Manpower and Transmigration Office in 2018, 19 textile and textile products (TPT) industries were closed due to high operational costs.

While nine other companies were relocated. Five companies relocated to Central Java. The other three companies moved to Garut and Majalengka whose lower city / district (UMK) minimum wages.

At least 24,000 people lost their jobs. Data released by the West Java Statistics Agency 2018 stated that the number of textile and apparel industries in West Java was 1,880 units until 2015.

"The textile industry in West Java is being disturbed. The main cause of labor wages is relatively high, "said Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Jabar Jusak Sulaiman .

In 2019, there were three regions in West Java that had wages of more than Rp. 4 million. Karawang Regency is the highest, Rp. 4.23 million. While the highest wages in Central Java were recorded in the city of Semarang, Rp. 2.49 million.

"With the difference in wages above Rp. 1 million, it is more profitable to move the industry to Central Java," he said. Jusak gave an example, if the industry had 1,000 workers, with a difference of Rp 1 million in wages, entrepreneurs could save Rp 1 billion per month or Rp 12 billion per year. The fund could potentially build a new factory.

Industri Tekstil Jawa Barat Terpuruk

Sementara sembilan perusahaan lainnya direlokasi.

Sedikitnya 24.000 orang kehilangan pekerjaan.
