Textile Raw Materials Still Imported, Government Asked to Contribute PDF Print E-mail

The Indonesian Textile Association (API) of Central Java is pushing the government to develop cotton raw materials for the textile industry needs of textile products (TPT) in the country. Because the raw material needs in the manufacturing industry are considered quite high.

"The potential development of the domestic textile industry is quite large. "Even from the recorded data, the sector is able to contribute to the second largest foreign exchange in the non-oil sector," said Deputy Chair of API Jateng, Liliek Setiawan.

However, he admitted that the high potential had not been matched by readiness from within the country. So that the industry players still have to import goods from abroad.

"Of course this is very ironic. Because the raw materials used are almost 90 percent imported. Not only raw materials, in terms of technology and other needs we also still have a lot of imports, "he explained.

For this reason, he hopes that the government can improve research. So that the cotton raw material needs can be developed domestically. Because with technological advancements and efforts made, it is possible that the raw material needs can be met independently without relying on imported goods.

Meanwhile on the same occasion, the Indonesian Cotton Councill Representative Program (CCI), Andy Do said, the value of imports of Cotton USA products to Indonesia so far was quite large. Even the figure reaches 500 million USD per year.

"Because of the high potential, we encourage the domestic textile industry to be able to develop its products more optimally. "In order to improve product competitiveness in the global market," he said.

Bahan Baku Tekstil Masih Impor, Pemerintah Diminta Berkontribusi
