Textile Industry Imposing Transformation Load PDF Print E-mail

The textile industry is often accused of producing waste. Therefore, in order to eliminate this stigma, the textile industry is felt to have to implement the transformation in its production system.

Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), Suharno Rusdi confirmed this condition. In fact, this condition is quite one of the reasons that the textile industries in Bandung are closed.

He considered, it must be changed. According to Suharno, the change can be started from the mindset of the textile industry actors themselves. Primarily, in order to no longer use raw materials that produce waste for the environment.

As a raw material, he sees the textile industry in Indonesia cannot continue to rely on very limited cotton. Suharno himself proposed the use of rayon or wood fibers with abundant sources in Indonesia.

Moreover, until now, cotton materials produced in Indonesia still have to import. Therefore, if raw materials can utilize wealth from within the country, it can certainly reduce the amount of Indonesian imports for textiles.

To give color, can not only  done by dipping  it into a coloring solution. He stressed, there  are nano technology and plasma technology that can be utilized and more environmentally friendly.

Nano technology, for example, is a smoothed dye  that is so smooth and can be up to 0.01 millimeters. Later, the substance can only be sprayed which means it does not produce a lot of waste water.

"It does not cause sound waste or waste water, water use still exists but the amount is very small," Suharno said at FTI UII.

Suharno stressed that it would also be one of the main discussions at the Indonesian Textile Experts Association (IKATSI) Congress. The Ikatan Congress will be held in Yogyakarta on March 7, 2019.

The IKATSI Congress is expected to not only bring  together  textile experts in Indonesia. The Congress must also prepare them to face the challenges of the Indonesian textile industry in the future.

IKATSI must be aware that the growth of the textile industry and national textile products has yet to be optimized. Not to mention, there are problems of human resources in the industrial world that must be answered, ranging from limited quantity, lack of opportunities to improve quality because they have to compete with foreign workers, to the connectivity of experts and industries that appear to have not been well established.

The need for skilled human resources in the textile product industry is believed to actually increase in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. Therefore, universities must also increase the production of skilled human resources in the field.

"It is predicted that the textile industry and textile products will be revived because the export market and domestic needs are growing," Suharno said.

Industri Tekstil Pendam Beban Transformasi
