Indonesia finally signed a free trade agreement with Australia (IA-CEPA). The free trade agreement between the two countries was passed with a fairly long process. It took about 9 years of negotiations until finally the two countries agreed to hold free trade in 2019.

There are several Indonesian products that have the potential to increase their exports thanks to this free agreement, one of which is textiles. The Indonesian Textile Association (API) targets textile exports to Australia to increase 100 percent in the next 2 years. So far, the value of textile exports to Australia has reached USD 200 million per year.

"The next two years are expected to be able to reach USD 500 million," he said.

Some textile goods exported to Australia have been for example socks, scarves and many other types. Ade added, the four seasons contained in the Kangaroo Country made a number of textile products from Indonesia selling there.

"Seasonal clothing is very popular there all this time," he added.

The IA-CEPA agreement is believed to be able to open a gap to find markets there. Because, Australia eliminated around 6,474 tariff posts to 0 percent when the IA-CEPA was implemented. After the signing, the government will enter the ratification stage to the DPR to form written rules between the two countries. The ratification process is targeted for completion by the end of this year.
