Asia Pacific Fiber (POLY) pushes value-added products in 2019 PDF Print E-mail

The prospect of added value products in textile raw materials is getting better. For that yarn and filament fiber producers, PT Asia Pacific Fibers Tbk (POLY) will develop the business segment.

 

Prama Yudha Amdan, Assistant President Director of  Corporate Communications POLY said that by increasing value-added products, the company helped increase its competitiveness in the textile upstream sector.

 

Because if we still only hope that commodity products such as regular filament fibers, said Prama, are vulnerable to being affected by global markets such as China. "For example, there is something in China's textile industry, of course it will have an impact to the local level," he explained.

 

In the country of the bamboo curtain is known to be a major player in the upstream textile industry, the low cost of production causes the price of their products to be found cheaper in the country.

 

While this added value product, said  Prama, the company's customers usually ask for customizations so that they are not fixated by prices of regular products that depend directly on the fluctuations in price of raw fiber filament materials.

 

So that producers like POLY have more bargain positions to determine prices besides being able to get better profit margins with added value products.

 

As for now POLY has produced a variety of value-added products such as anti-bacterial yarns, refractory fibers and automotive fibers. Prama said the company was targeting customers from the new automotive sector, by studying material formulations that matched the customers.

 

"With our Japanese automakers, we have signed in, then we are trying now with European automotive manufacturers," he said. This material research takes at least 2 to 3 years so that the formulation matches the needs of new customers.

 

To develop this segment, POLY also set aside funds from this year's capital expenditure (capex) which is planned to be around US $ 14 million - US $ 15 million. The first capex is used to add infrastructure in line production of value-added yarns, the second is revitalization of production machines.

 

Prama ensures that there  are no new investments or additional capacity in 2019 besides rejuvenation of the engine. It is estimated that this year's added value product will contribute around 30% of the company's EBITDA.

 

In addition  to meet  local market, these value-added products also target the export market. As an illustration, POLY's export sales volume  in last year  was around 20-25% of  the company's  total sales volume, while this year Yudha said, it was predicted that the export portion would be around 30% -35% of the total sales volume.

Prospek produk bernilai tambah (added value) di bahan baku tekstil semakin membaik. Untuk itu produsen benang dan serat filamen, PT Asia Pasific Fibers Tbk (POLY) bakal mengembangkan segmen usaha tersebut.

 

Prama Yudha Amdan, Assistant President Director Corporate Communications POLY menyebutkan bahwa dengan meningkatkan produk bernilai tambah, perseroan turut meningkatkan daya saingnya di sektor hulu tekstil ini.

 

Sebab jika masih hanya berharap dari produk komoditas seperti serat filamen reguler, kata Prama, rentan terdampak oleh pasar global seperti China. "Misalnya ada sesuatu di industri tekstil China, tentu akan berdampak ke tingkat lokal," terangnya.

 

Di Negeri tirai bambu tersebut diketahui menjadi pemain utama industri hulu tekstil, ongkos produksi yang murah menyebabkan harga produk mereka sering ditemui lebih murah di tanah air.

 

Sementara produk added value ini, sebut Prama, customer perseroan biasanya meminta customize sehingga tidak terpaku dengan harga produk reguler yang bergantung langsung terhadap naik-turunnya harga raw material serat filamen.

 

Sehingga produsen seperti POLY lebih memiliki bargain position untuk menentukan harga disamping mampu mendapatkan margin keuntungan yang lebih baik dengan added value product.

 

Adapun saat ini POLY telah memproduksi beragam produk bernilai tambah seperti benang anti-bacteria, serat tahan api dan serat otomotif. Prama menyebutkan perseroan tengah mengincar customer dari sektor otomotif yang baru, dengan cara mempelajari formulasi material yang cocok dengan pelanggan tersebut.

 

"Dengan produsen otomotif Jepang kami sudah sign in, lalu kami upayakan sekarang dengan produsen otomotif Eropa," ujarnya. Riset material ini paling tidak membutuhkan waktu 2 sampai 3 tahun agar formulasinya cocok dengan kebutuhan customer baru.

 

Untuk mengembangkan segmen ini, maka POLY pun menanggarkan dana dari capital expenditure (capex) tahun ini yang direncanakan sekitar US$ 14 juta - US$ 15 juta. Pertama capex digunakan untuk menambah infrastruktur di line production benang-benang bernilai tambah, yang kedua revitalisasi mesin produksi.

 

Prama memastikan belum ada investasi baru atau penambahan kapasitas di tahun 2019 ini selain peremajaan mesin tersebut. Untuk added value product diperkirakan di tahun ini kontribusinya sekitar 30% dari EBITDA perusahaan.

 

Selain memenuhi pasar lokal, produk bernilai tambah ini juga menyasar pasar ekspor. Sebagai gambaran, volume penjualan ekspor POLY di tahun lalu sekitar 20%-25% dari total volume penjualan perseroan, sementara di tahun ini Yudha menyebutkan, diprediksi porsi ekspor sekitar 30%-35% dari total volume penjualan.
