Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto said since 2015, the absorption of labor in the industrial sector continued to increase.

"The figure is from 15.54 million people in 2015 to 18 million people in 2018, up 17.4%. That means the industrial sector absorbs an average of 672 thousand workers per year," Airlangga said in Jakarta.

Investment in the manufacturing industry sector also increased. According to the Ministry of Industry data, in 2014 it was IDR195.74 trillion, up to IDR226.18 trillion in 2018.

The Ministry of Industry itself through the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map has targeted the national manufacturing industry to be more competitive globally in the digital era. "The investment will have a positive impact on the growth of the large and medium and small scale industrial sectors," he added.

He also explained that there was an increase in the population of large and medium industries. From 2014 a total of 25,094 business units became 30,992 business units in 2018. In other words, there were 5,898 business units. Growth also occurs in small industrial sectors. From 2014 there were 3.52 million business units to 4.49 million business units in 2017.

Other manufacturing sectors that absorb a lot of labor, he continued, namely the food industry with a contribution of 26.67%, apparel industry (13.69%), wood industry, wood products and cork (9.93%), textile industry ( 7.46%), non-metal excavation industry (5.72%), and furniture industry (4.51%).
