IFC Indonesia National Chairman Fashion Chairman Ali Charisma revealed that the presence of imported raw materials in  fashion industry sector does not always mean bad. The presence of imported products also has a positive impact on the development of the domestic textile industry.

"With the presence of external products, the standard has been discovered. We are looking for the most up-to-date, which local products must be better than in quality and price," he said

The presence of imported products can be an inspiration for textile industry players to improve the quality of their products. Thus the performance of the textile industry can be more attractive.

"There are positives and negatives. Actually, the condition of Indonesian textiles is somewhat sluggish in design or business. So this imported product can be a reference. Now developing, the textile wants to rise again," he said.

The Ministry of Industry's Director General of Small and Medium Industries (IKMA) Gati Wibawaningsih said the presence of imported raw materials basically helped designers to obtain materials that could not be obtained domestically.

"Designers are high in creativity. He wants to make something good. Well, for design of the fabric itself sometimes there is no domestic product. Then the problem in the country if you want to buy a little is rather difficult. If imports are easier," he said.

Meanwhile the Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, said that one of the government's efforts to suppress the import of raw materials and auxiliary materials is by encouraging investment.

"Of course, if the name is import for Industry, the name is raw materials and supporting materials. Well, in the future, of course, what we pursue is that our exports will increase," said Airlangga.

"We will reduce imports of raw materials. Reduce imports with more investment. So we encourage export-oriented import substitution. So that is a national policy to encourage industry," he said.
