The Ministry of Industry projects that the demand for labor in industrial sector will rise to exceed 8% until 2035. This increase is spread across all manufacturing sub-sectors, such as food and beverage industry, metals, textiles and clothing, and automotive.

"The high demand for labor is in line with the entry of a number of investments in Indonesia and government efforts that are increasingly aggressively boosting the industrial sector, both in order to meet the domestic and export markets," said Coordinator of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) Mujiyono.

The Ministry of Industry noted, investment in the manufacturing industry in 2014 amounted to Rp195.74 trillion, up to Rp226.18 trillion in 2018. Absorption of labor in the industrial sector also increased, around 15.54 million people in 2015 to 18 million people in 2018.

According to Mujiyono, every year the industry sector absorbs as many as 672 thousand workers. "We have calculated, if the industry is pegged to grow 5% -6%," he said. However, in addition to fulfillment in terms of quantity, what is also important is the creation of quality human resources (HR) according to the needs of today's industry.

"Moreover, now we have entered the industrial era of 4.0, where the industrial sector is required to utilize advanced technology or digitalization so that it can increase product capacity and quality more efficiently. Well, in order to achieve these targets, competent human resources are needed. So, competent HR is the key to our industrial competitiveness, "he explained.

Therefore, starting this year tgovernment focused on developing quality of human resources as a national development agenda. Strategic steps that are being carried out, among others, are conducting various more massive vocational education and industrial training activities.

Mujiyono conveyed, Indonesia has great potential in efforts to build quality human resources along with the momentum of bonus demographics that are being enjoyed for the next 20 years. "Until 2030, Indonesia is predicted to experience a demographic bonus period, ie the productive age population reaches 67.5% of the total population of 297 million," he said.

The productive age population is considered to be a source of economic growth and development of innovation. "Therefore, we continue to strive to create more experts and create a conducive industrial climate so that uptake and productivity of labor continues to increase," he added.
