TESTEX at Indo Leather & Footwear Expo 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia PDF Print E-mail

Running from 4 to 6 April, this event was TESTEX’s opportunity to introduce OEKO-TEX® certification to the visitors (mainly from the home industry), for whom OEKO-TEX® was something new. Being a leather event, there was a lot of interest in the LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX®.

On day one TESTEX’s Market Development Manager for Asia Pacific Kris Wan gave a mini seminar focusing on the LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX® and making safer leather choices. The presentation looked at the challenges faced by the leather industry (soil & water contamination, water consumption etc.), and why certification for leather is becoming increasingly important (increasing demand for leather goods worldwide, fulfilling consumer expectations for safer and sustainable products, industry initiatives and requirements for environmental protection – AFIRM RSL, ZDHC).

The LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX® is the only one of its kind on the market that tests such a wide range of chemicals for harmful substances. It can also be combined with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® for garments or accessories which contain both leather and textile components. Since April this year STeP by OEKO-TEX® (new: Sustainable Textile & Leather Production) has been extended to cover leather facilities too.

It is TESTEX’s 2nd year at the Indo Leather and Footwear exhibition, its main aim being to provide holistic information to raise awareness about sustainability for the leather industry in Indonesia.
