Pan Brothers' Response to The Large Number of Vietnamese Textiles PDF Print E-mail

The flood of garment and textile products from abroad such as China and Vietnam to Indonesia was responded to by the country's textile industry market, such as PT Pan Brothers Tbk (PBRX), one of the largest national manufacturing companies.

This issuer produces fashion products for big brands such as Adidas, Uniqlo and H & M. Pan Brothers Vice Chief Executive Officer Anne Patricia Sutanto said that although garment products from outside entered Indonesia, the company was also able to expand to other countries.

"For [textile companies] Indonesia, especially PBRX which 97 percent [products] can flood other countries, meaning we are more competitive," said Anne.

He said the company had not been afraid of the penetration of foreign garments into Indonesia, as long as fair treatment between Indonesian and outside textile companies.

"What is feared is the cost making of Indonesia, more expensive if we import. If the balance of upstream and downstream is commensurate, I don't think that we would lose position in Indonesia," said Deputy Chairman of the Banten Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo) Banten.

He stressed that the government needs to do is ensure that the Domestic Investment (PMDN) and Foreign Investment (PMA) facilities are balanced, the HS Code (Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) between upstream and downstream is also the same, and increases the competitive level or competitiveness Indonesia.

The financial report noted, as of the end of 2018, Pan Brothers' revenues reached US $ 611.37 million, equivalent to Rp 8.55 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 14,000 / US $), up from 2017 at US $ 549.36 million. Net income also jumped to US $ 18.29 million from US $ 9.35 million in 2017.

In addition, Anne explained the efforts made to encourage the level of Indonesian manufacturing to have good competitiveness.

He said, together with Apindo, he had told the government how to make manufacturing growth even higher, such as terms of skill and productivity components.

"Look at the US, as a developed country, that the country is advancing. Unions, workers and employers, we are all triparted how to advance the nation with manufacturing. What is needed is to understand and make sure, without us having a large umbrella, with social security."
