The Indonesian government claims ready to offer more exports of textiles and textile products (TPT) to the United States amid the momentum of trade wars between the US and China.

Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that during the trade war, China could not export textile products to Uncle Sam's country. According to him, the US-China trade war made a number of products from each of these countries unable to enter the second market. Especially for China, various export products cannot penetrate the US market.

The US is main export market for China. The US has a large dependence on products from China. However, US President Donald Trump's trade war policy hampered trade between the two countries.

When US trade to China and vice versa is hampered, continued Enggar, this is actually a good momentum for Indonesia to fill product needs in both countries. However, because China has a strong industrial sector, Enggar sees Indonesia's opportunity is far greater to fill the US needs that China cannot enter.

"Well, textiles and textile products can definitely go there, we (Indonesia) replace the ones from China. Now that the purchase of cotton has increased, this is used as the finished product that we (Indonesia) sell to the US," said Enggar

According to Enggar, the opportunity to increase textile exports to the US will continue to increase until the end of the year. If demand continues to increase, he projects the growth of the textile industry can reach a range of 25-30 percent this year.

In addition to textiles and textile products, Enggar said the government was mapping other export commodities which could be increased to fill the US market that China could not enter.

"We see that by sector, the business world is also involved. It seems that furniture is also large, US imports from China, we can fill it," he said.

According to Enggar, Indonesia must increase its exports to the US carefully. Because, not to increase exports, the trade deficit between the US-Indonesia is too wide.

"If the deficit gets wider, the US can revoke GSP facilities (facilities for free import duties for certain imports) for us (Indonesia)," he said.

On the other hand, Enggar said Indonesia also needs to be careful with China. Because, there is the potential for the transfer of Chinese exports that were originally intended to the US to other countries, including Indonesia.

President Jokowi has also spoken with the business community in order to increase exports and take advantage of opportunities when the US-China trade war takes place. Moreover, Indonesia needs an increase in exports to support the target of economic growth reaching 5.3 percent this year.
