The Directorate of Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry, Ministry of Industry and the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) agreed to increase the competitiveness of the national textile and textile products (TPT) industry.

The agreement contained in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Directorate of Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry with BPPT whose signing was conducted on Thursday in the workspace of the Director of the Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry, Muhdori, Ministry of Industry building, Jakarta.

Increasing the competitiveness of the national textile industry will be carried out through the development and use of technology in the industrial sector which simultaneously supports Making Indonesia's 4.0 initiative.

In order to support this MoU, said Muhdori, the two parties agreed to conduct a roadmap for the textile and apparel industry as well as mentoring the implementation of the Textile Industry 4.0 light house project.

BPPT Chief Research Expert, Sudirman Habibie told the press that the roadmap to be produced by the MoU would be a patron to "revive" the national textile industry whose mastery of technology had lagged far behind from friendly countries such as Bangladesh and Vietnam.

It must be admitted Sudirman said, the national textile industry was in a stagnant situation since 30 years ago while competing countries skyrocketed and left Indonesia. This was proven by Sudirman, saying that the value of national textile exports 30 years ago had reached US $ 11 billion, which was not much different from the figures achieved in 2019.

This also means, continued Sudirman, the national textile industry does not have progress. Why? "There is something wrong, Indonesia is late in updating technology," he said.

Important Moment

For this reason, he continued, the MoU signed with the Director of the Textile, Leather and Footwear Industry, Muhdori, was an important moment to place the national textile industry as a prime industry that would rediscover the identity of the people who had once triumphed.

Sudirman is convinced that the lagging of the national textile industry with friendly countries, will be pursued and even surpassed, the roadmap produced by the MoU must be fully implemented by all stakeholders.

"Especially the government and banking circles should not half-heartedly provide assistance to the textile industry sector but must be all-out. The TPT industry, which was once called the sunset industry, will prove that the nickname is not true, 'he said.

If all interested parties give a positive response in supporting the TPTnational industry, Sudirman said, let alone the export value of US $ 13 billion, two to three times the value can be achieved by Indonesia. "I am sure that is true," he stressed.

Asked when it was realized, it was said that soon enough, it could be that in 2030 the national TPN industry will glow again. ’'But that was before, the roadmap presented by this MoU must be truly implemented,' he stressed.

One more he asked, the textile industry players in the country, were asked to maintain cohesiveness especially between textile producers and the yarn industry.

"If all of this is agreed upon, the roadmap will be implemented, the government and banking all-out will help the TPT industry and between compact industry players, Indonesia will be taken into account by the international community, '' he stressed
