Increasing Textile Exports, API Holds Meeting with US CCI PDF Print E-mail
Written by Maizer
Thursday, 01 August 2019
The Indonesian Textile Association (API) is committed to support and contribute to the central government's program in balancing position of the trade balance between Indonesia and the United States.

One of the efforts undertaken is to increase the volume of textile and garment exports, in addition to cotton imports from the United States (US) which has been running until now. Chairman of the National Board of API Ade Sudrajat explained, until now the United States is still the main destination for Indonesian textile and garment exports with a value of US $ 4.7 billion in 2018, followed by Japan and China.

In addition, according to Ade, the potential for textile exports to America is still very large. This is because the volume of American textile imports from Indonesia is still in the range of 5 percent, from the total volume of American textile and garment imports.

API rate, Indonesian textile products can compete in the United States market because the quality of Indonesian textiles is very competitive. Although the utilization of production capacity is not optimal. To continue to expand the export opportunities, the API conducts business meetings with the Cotton Council International (CCI) of the United States, cotton producers, and major Indonesian textile and garment buyers in several states of the United States.

The aim is to discuss cotton imports and exports of Indonesian textiles and garments. The activity titled "2019 US Cotton Special Trade Mission from Indonesia Reception" became one of the agenda of the API delegation in its trade mission to the United States.

BRI Support

The API went there because it was supported by PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk through its Foreign Work Unit, BRI New York Agency (BRINYA).

Regarding API's efforts to increase textile exports, Tri explained, BRI is ready to support and bridge trade between textile and garment entrepreneurs in Indonesia and its business partners in the United States.

In this case, including the provision of banking services both in terms of funding facilities and other financial services.

For example, trade finance and payment services that can facilitate export and import activities between the two countries. For information, the event was held at the Omni Berkshire Place Hotel, Manhattan, New York. In addition to the United States CCI and API, the event was also attended by 20 leaders of Indonesian textile and garment companies.
