The Ministry of Industry has declared the batik industry to be an industry that has an important role for the Indonesian economy because of its contribution to the country's foreign exchange.

Proven in 2018, the Batik industry has contributed US $ 52.44 million to the country's foreign exchange through exports. Besides being known as the identity of the Indonesian nation, the Indonesian Batik industry is also considered to have a role in opening up jobs with the number of workers absorbed at the IKM Batik center reaching more than 15 thousand people.

However, what still needs to be considered is that the industry which has an important role in the country's foreign exchange is becoming stronger and stronger, and the only factor is production. Like the use of quality fabrics.

"In this industry, it is very important for textile factories, garment producers, and clothing entrepreneurs to understand the importance of using quality materials for their production processes," said Ade Sudrajat, Chair of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) in his remarks during a forum titled "Cotton USA in Batik Cloth and Clothing "held by the Cotton Council International Foundation (CCI) in collaboration with API in Yogyakarta.

In the forum which was attended by representatives of textile factories in Indonesia that produce fabrics made from US cotton, Indonesian Batik garment producers, as well as Indonesian Batik designers and other local brands, Ade revealed the importance of various parties to encourage raising awareness of important textile industry players about the use of quality materials for textiles and textile products (TPT) in the current era of intense competition.

As is known, many countries that have been producing cotton for textile materials, one of the most well-known quality is American origin.

"API will also always encourage important players in this industry to continue to learn about the importance of using quality US cotton, their understanding of this will have a good impact on the development of their business," he said.

CCI Representative in Indonesia Dr. Anh Dung (Andy) Do who was also present at the forum said that his party had so far been committed to increasing public attention on the importance of high-quality cotton, especially cotton from the US which has been used as a basic material for making materials from various world fashion brands, including in Indonesia.

He gave an example of cotton from the US that uses the Cotton USA label, since 1989 has used more than 3.8 billion products.

"The results of research on labels in the US, China, India, Canada, Britain and the EU show that Cotton USA is more desirable than 100% cotton labels," he said.

In the forum CCI also brought together several parties who played an important role in the Indonesian Batik industry, ranging from the government, Indonesian textile associations, fashion designers, to textile companies.

In the forum participants can visit 6 Indonesian textile factory booths, suppliers of fabrics made from cotton from the US (at least 51% cotton from the US) and do networking with several manufacturers including Apac Inti Corpora, Argo Pantes, Dan Liris, Sri Rejeki Isman , Grand Textile Industry and Tantra Textile Industry.
