The Center for Textiles once again holds a biannual scientific event for the 2019 National Textile Seminar (SNT 2019), on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Trans Convention Center, The Trans Luxury Hotel.

The event was attended by 150 participants from government agencies, industry, business, academia and the general public with the theme "Challenges and Opportunities for Textile and Apparel Innovation in the Industrial Age 4.0".

The seminar was opened by the Head of the Center for Research and Development of the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Textile, Metal, Machine, Transport Equipment and Electronics Industry [IKFTLMATE] Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sony Sulaksono, M.Bs, who was also the main speaker in this event.

In addition to the exposure of the main speaker, there were 3 other speakers from the presentation namely Dra. Euis Saedah, M.Sc (Chair of the Indonesian Fiber Council), Dr. Ir. Sudirman Habibie, M.Sc (Textile, Chemical and Design and Design Expert, Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology-BPPT), and Sascha Graef (Director of Asia, Managing Director of MPDV Asia Pte. Ltd).

The three speakers discussed the latest issues regarding development application of Industry 4.0 in the textile and apparel sector, especially in terms of utilizing communication and information technology, supporting sustainable materials and implementing technology 4.0 in the construction of smart factories.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the industrial sector still contributed the most to structure of  national gross domestic product (GDP) in second quarter of 2019 with an achievement of 19.52% (y-on-y). One of the sectors that sustained growth of the non-oil and gas processing industry in the second quarter of this year, and was able to surpass the economic growth of 5.05%, such as the textile and apparel industry sector which grew skyrocketed to 20.71%.

Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia already had a road map in readiness to enter the industrial era 4.0. This is stated in Making Indonesia 4.0, which was launched by President Jokowi in April 2018. Through the roadmap, revitalizing the manufacturing sector and building an innovation-based economy.

The technology that is developing along with the rolling of industry 4.0, among others is in the form of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced robotic, internet of things (IoT), 3D Printing, and Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality (AR / VR). In the roadmap, three horizon leaps to Textiles and Apparel 4.0 are also explained, namely: Horizon 1 (2021) - increasing the ability to produce synthetic fibers and building upstream ecosystems for functional clothing; (2) Horizon 2 (in 2025) - construction of a series of textile and apparel industries connected through technology 4.0; and Horizon 3 (2030) - planting Indonesia's position as a center for functional clothing manufacturing.

In supporting the achievement of the Textile and Apparel 4.0 target in 2030, it is very important to build an innovation ecosystem through cross-institutional R&D collaboration both from government R&D institutions, universities, associations and R&D of the TPT Industry.

SNT 2019 presents 31 papers originating from the Government R&D Agency (BBT, BPPT, National Clean Production Center (PPBN), and the Center for Crafts and Batik), as well as Universities (Padjadjaran University, Diponegoro University, Yogyakarta ATK Polytechnic, Jenderal Soedirman University, Bandung Institute of Technology, University of Indonesia, and Bandung STT Textile Polytechnic). SNT 2019 also presented an Expo that presented the results of the Center for Textile Research and industrial products from PT. CS Indonesia and PT. Primary Graha Universe.
