The Textile Industry Responds to Sales Problems PDF Print E-mail

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) responded to the problems faced by the textile industry and textile production (TPT). The rush of imported products eroded their sales.

These difficulties lead to termination of employment (FLE). On the other hand, the wage factor is a consideration for employers doing layoffs. This happened in the West Java region.

"Layoffs are a lot of the cause if in West Java related to UMK (Regency Minimum Wage)," he said.

The issue of wages is an issue for labor-intensive entrepreneurs with an average of 10,000-20,000 employees in one company.

This condition is indeed ironic, because on the other hand the Ministry of Industry is pushing for businesses to increase production capacity in the midst of the US-China trade war. According to Sigit, so far TPT exports are still small in the range of 1.8-2%.

"Now we are pushing to increase capacity because when it comes to exports, we are talking about capacity. Our exports are from 1.8-2%, it cannot be more. This is because our capacity is lacking because of old equipment," he said.

So, he said he would optimize technology users while pushing the industry into the industrial era 4.0 scheme.

"We will try industry 4.0 in each industry line, which can be raised with technology. So we can find out which side is reduced, which productivity can be added," he explained.
