To improve the business climate of the TPT industry, Redma assessed that the government could make several efforts such as providing incentives that enable domestic TPT companies to compete with foreign companies or other measures to impose restrictions on imported goods.

Incentives that should be issued by the government to save the textile industry can be done by providing gas tariff incentives, ease of distribution, and quality of human resources. He hoped that the gas tariff could be reduced to US $ 6 per MMBTU from the current price range of US $ 9 per MMBTU to boost the competitiveness of the textile and textile products market.

In addition, the government can take firm steps to limit imports of raw materials. If the government can restrict the import of imported materials, domestic demand will shift to local TPT companies.

Redma proposed to the government to tighten imports of a number of products that could be produced by domestic producers, mainly for HS 52 Woven Fabric from Cotton, HS 54 Woven Fabric from Synthetic Filament Yarn, HS 55 Woven Fabric from Synthetic Staple Fiber / Viscose Rayon to HS 62 Apparel and Clothing Accessories Not Knitted.

Because these products can already be produced domestically, the import should only be carried out by API-P which gets P-textiles on condition that it is used for its own raw material, not for sale.

At present, continued Redma, the utilization rate of TPT companies is only 65%. Worse yet, the utilization of fabric manufacturing plants is only 45%, down considerably from 2017 which is still 55%.

"If the domestic market can be regulated it can suppress imports, the balance can be positive again," he added.

He also believes that if the textile import taps were tightened, the needs of 260 million Indonesian citizens would be met by the TPT companies, one of which, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR). The company, which belongs to the Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) group, produces viscose rayon and biodegradable used for textile products. The company has invested IDR 11 trillion to build a factory with a capacity of 240 thousand tons of viscose-rayon per year.

"Two years ago, viscose production was still in deficit, we used to import 150 thousand tons. Even though demand was 300 thousand tons. The presence of APR also made local demand needs met, so it was in balance," said Redma.

Asia Pacific Rayon (APR), the first integrated viscose-rayon fiber producer in Indonesia, is committed to supporting the development and competitiveness of the domestic textile and fashion industry internationally.

Some time ago, Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto also said that the presence of APR as a producer of viscose-rayon fiber had a very positive impact in reducing the current dependence on imports of raw materials while enriching the Indonesian textile industry.

"We appreciate the investment and APR's commitment that has supported the government's agenda towards the national strategic industry namely the TPT sector in order to be more competitive in the global market," Airlangga said
