The Government Doubts Contribution Shiny Manufacturing Industry Next Year PDF Print E-mail

The government doubts the contribution of the manufacturing industry to Indonesia's economic growth next year. Look, in the Government Work Plan (RKP) 2020, the contribution of manufacturing to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is only 19.83 percent. That number is not much different compared to the first quarter of 2019 which amounted to 20.07 percent.

Moreover, Deputy for Economic Affairs of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Prijambodo said that the acquisition was not only temporary. He considered that it needed a great effort to maintain the contribution of the manufacturing sector in that position.

To maintain the share of manufacturing to GDP, at least it takes industry growth in accordance with economic growth. According to the RKP, 2020 economic growth is at 5.3 percent, so growth of the manufacturing industry must be in that position.

"In fact, so far growth of the manufacturing industry has always been below economic growth. Last year alone, industrial growth was 4.3 percent, lower than economic growth of 5.2 percent. This is very low, it cannot be an economic driver," Bambang said in the House of Representatives Building.

Then, the manufacturing industry was not free from challenges. In fact, until next year. First, there is a trade war between the United States and China which certainly affects the export performance and production of Indonesian manufacturing.

Second, there is the problem of integration between upstream and downstream industries so that the added value of Indonesia's manufacturing industry is never optimal. Third, the oil and gas processing industry which continues to show weakening every year.

"The consequence of oil and gas processing industry that is pulling down is making it difficult for manufacturing industry to grow according to GDP. So, indeed we will look for the right target to move the industry and keep maintaining exports so that employment can remain broad," explained Bambang.

In addition to maintaininge pace of industrial growth to match economic growth, a strategy to increase industrialization is also carried out through investment.
