President Joko Widodo asked for input from the textile and yarn association to increase the textile market share in the global arena. In this case, President Jokowi welcomed the management of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) and the Indonesian Association of Synthetic Fiber and Filament Yarn (APSyFI) at the Merdeka Palace.

According to him, the textile and clothing industry was the industry with the highest growth in the second quarter of 2019 amounting to 20.71%.

"This is very high growth and entered the top five with the industry's highest contribution to GDP [gross domestic product] in the second quarter of 2019 which was 1.30%," he said.

However, he said the growth of Indonesia's textile and textile product market share in the global market actually tends to stagnate at around 1.6%. He admitted that the figure is still far behind, for example compared to China with 21.8%, our main competitor is 4.59%, and Bangladesh 4.72% last year.

Not only that, Jokowi revealed that exports of textiles and textile products were down 0.6% in the second quarter of 2019 compared to the same period last year.

"This is due to the high cost of local production and facilities and trade policies that favor imports and the lack of long-term planning, which has an impact on minimal investment," he said.

For this reason, he asked for input from entrepreneurs in the related sectors to maximize the growth of the textile and apparel industry.

In this meeting, President Jokowi was accompanied by a number of ministers including Cabinet Secretary Minister Pramono Anung, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Deputy Minister of Finance Mardiasmo, Chief Bekraf Triawan Munaf, Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto, and BKPM Chief Thomas Lembong

Meanwhile, a number of association managers who were present included API Chairperson Ade Sudrajat and API Chairperson General Board Chairperson Anne Patricia Sutanto.
