"The textile and apparel industry became the industry with the highest growth in the second Quarter of 2019 this year, amounting to 20.71 percent. This is a very high growth, and entered the top five as the industry with the highest contribution to GDP in the Second Quarter 2019 of 1.30 percent, "the President said when accepting the Management and Members of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) and the Association of Synthetic Fiber and Yarn Manufacturers Filamen Indonesia (APSyFI), at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

However, the President continued, the growth of Indonesia's textile and textile product market share in the global market tends to stagnate, which is around 1.6 percent. He also added that Indonesia's position was lagging far behind, for example compared to China with 31.8 percent and two main competitors, namely Vietnam 4.59 percent and Bangladesh 4.72 percent in 2018.

The President indicated, the low growth of exports of Indonesian textiles and textile products was due to the high cost of local production, facilities and trade policies that favor imports, and the lack of long-term planning which had an impact on the lack of investment. For this reason, the President asked for input from both API and APSyFI on what could be done together.

"I want to know very well what businesses want, I don't think there are too many proposals, just three points but we formulate it, we decide, then the government will carry out its policies so that it is truly beneficial to all," said the President.

He also hoped that the world economic turmoil would actually be an opportunity for Indonesia to improve things that still needed to be fixed. So this opportunity must be used so that there is a turning point for industrialization in our country, he concluded
