The Indonesian Textile Association welcomes  government's move to re-realize the textile industry restructuring program. This program is believed to increase the competitiveness of businesses.Ade Sudrajat, Chair of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), said the program would later be parallel with industry proposals to protect the domestic market in the short term, which is 3 years.

According to Ade, the program allows textile and textile product (TPT) industry players to rejuvenate their production machinery. "Hopefully, in the next few years the competitiveness of the textile industry will continue to increase," he said.

The Director of the Textile, Leather & Footwear Industry, Ministry of Industry, Muhdori said that the government had confirmed it would resume the textile industry restructuring program after it was stopped in 2015 to test its effectiveness.

With a definitive ceiling of Rp. 25 billion in 2020, the Ministry of Industry will target businesses in the intermediate sector to be able to rejuvenate production equipment and increase its capacity.

He explained that this facility was one of the instruments, in addition to the tax allowance and tax holiday, provided by the government to spur the textile and textile product (TPT) industry. This program, he explained, was planned to last for five years, namely in 2020 - 2024, with funding needs reaching Rp400 billion.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance has ratified the definitive ceiling for 2020.

"For 2020, although it is still a little, the textile sector is set to have a definitive ceiling of Rp. 25 billion," he said.

Muhdori explained the facility would be in the form of a subsidy for value added tax (VAT) of 10% for companies that carry out rejuvenation of production machinery. According to him, the production equipment that is already fairly old in the factory has indeed become one of the challenges of the TPT sector because it affects the quantity of production.

In addition, the facility is also given to businesses to develop wastewater treatment plants (IPAL).

"The government will provide a 10% stimulus from VAT. So, the VAT is subsidized by the government," he said.

Muhdori said that he would target companies in the intermediate sector with export oration. Based on a study by the Ministry of Industry, he said there were around 156 factories fulfilling the requirements.
