One of the rivers where Textile waste is disposed of is Citarum River with 7 watersheds, which also pass through Textile factories around Bandung City, Bandung Regency, Cimahi City and other areas in West Java. With the heavy polluted status carried by Citarum River, Citarum received special attention from the Government, resulting in a river cleansing program called the "Citarum Harum" program.

The quality of waste produced by a factory is inseparable from the materials used during the manufacturing process of a product, in this case, are yarn, fabric, and garment. Supporting materials such as dyes, chemicals (including) auxiliary, etc. play an important role in the result of waste. The importance of awareness of business actors in the textile industry sector contributes significantly to the waste produced. Where will broadly affect the water quality of the Citarum River.

Starting from this condition, PT Indonesia Nikka Chemicals collaborated with TESTEX and was fully supported by the Department of Environment and Cleanliness of the City of Bandung to hold a one-day seminar " Sustainability of Green Chemicals for Textile processing " on October 24th, 2019 at the Crowne Hotel Plaza Bandung, which was attended by textile entrepreneurs both from Bandung, Bandung Regency, Cimahi Regency, Karawang Regency and even from Jepara Regency.

The main material discussed was "Smart Dyeing Process" by Mr. Narihisa Takeuchi - General Manager of the Research & Development Section of the Textile Chemicals Division of NICCA Chemical Co., Ltd., explaining the products developed by NICCA, oriented to environmentally friendly chemicals that provide benefits in saving time, energy and total cost in the production process of textile products. The more effective a process and the less water which is used will have impacts on the quality and quantity of waste.

Correspondingly, certifying the waste treatment process of a factory will provide various kinds of benefits both to the business actors themselves by ensuring the existing sewage treatment system as well as the direct impact on the environment by controlling waste disposal to the watershed. TESTEX with the material "STeP by OEKO-TEX® Certification and Detox to Zero assessment system" by Mr. Marc Sidler - Chief Marketing Officer of TESTEX AG. explained what STeP certificates are, how the system to get STeP certificates by OEKO-TEX and the benefits that will be obtained if you have Step by OEKO-TEX certificate

The last material that is deemed necessary as a provision and direction of business actors in running their business is the "Supervision and Law Enforcement of Business Actors in Bandung" by Mrs. Lita Endang - Head of Rehabilitation and Prevention of Environmental Pollution in Bandung (DLHK Bandung). In this session, DLHK Bandung City explained the Regulations related to the supervision of environmental management, criminal and administrative sanctions against businesses that violated the relevant regulations. As well as guidance to business actors who have not yet met the requirements for the disposal of waste to the watershed.

Responsibility for the negative impacts of the management and utilization of natural resources are in the hands of all elements of the community. Therefore, to be able to protect and pass down qualified natural resources in the future, all parties have to contribute to creating a better quality of life in the future.
