Indonesian textile entrepreneurs assess that the application of safeguards for imports of raw materials for Textile and Textile Products (TPT) will not solve the industrial problem.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), Anne Patricia Sutanto, explained that there were still a number of problems that the government still escaped while still having long-term impacts.

"There are 6 points and that is related to energy, commercial, human resources, environment, finance, raw materials," said Anne.

Anne explained from a commercial perspective, the textile businessman asked the government to seriously limit the import of textile products. She said if the product could already be produced in Indonesia, the government should not facilitate its import. At present the businessman is trying to submit this to the Ministry of Trade.

"If there is in Indonesia, imports can be restricted. If it is not produced, there is no real import problem, "said Anne. From the energy side, Anne said the entrepreneur asked for a 25 percent reduction in electricity prices instead of PLN giving, and the tariff calculation did not depend on the presence or absence of additional capacity.

Then from the State Gas Company (PGN), the businessman also requested that the price of gas they use continue to refer to the Presidential Regulation 40 of 2016. She said the businessman wanted the price to remain at US $ 6 per MMBTU.

Anne also asked to clean up the upstream side of the textile industry. He said products such as polyester should be produced immediately so that entrepreneurs do not need to import from abroad. This, according to him, was successfully carried out in China and India which were able to build a base of raw materials or so-called super upstream.

"Their raw materials do not depend on imports anymore," said Anne.

Regarding finance, the government said Anne asked the government to carry out tax reforms for the textile sector. He said that currently the TPT industry was in the midst of cleaning up so they needed tolerance and policy assistance so that the industry would survive.

Finally, regarding the environment, Anne complained that textile entrepreneurs were often treated discriminatively when talking about river pollution such as Citarum and Bengawan Solo. He said the government's move to fix pollution must target other non-textile industries as well so that not all mistakes were addressed to them.

"We hope it's fair for the TPT. So don't let us wash the river. If you want to clean, then you are equally clean with other sectors. So it's fair in terms of the maximum waste that we can put back into the river, "said Anne.
