Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita assessed the ambassadors as representative of the Republic of Indonesia had a strategic role in efforts to promote domestic industrial products. It is expected to expand export markets, especially to non-traditional countries.

"Moreover, the government is focusing on boosting export value in order to reduce the trade balance deficit. Therefore, various strategic policies are implemented," Agus explained when speaking at a panel discussion at a series of events at the Head of the Republic of Indonesia-Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2020 Work Meeting in Jakarta.

The Minister of Industry said, the five biggest export destination countries for the industrial sector in January-November 2019, such as the United States which reached US $ 15.62 billion, followed by China US $ 15.50 billion, Japan US $ 10.13 billion, Singapore US $ 8.16 billion, and India US $ 5.88 billion.

"During January-November 2019, the industrial sector contributed to the total value of national exports up to 75.57% or valued at US $ 153.11 billion. From the achievements, the government paid special attention to increasing the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry," he said.

Even in that period, the three industrial sectors which recorded the highest export value were the food and beverage industry which penetrated US $ 24.30 billion, the base metals industry US $ 15.99 billion, and the textile and apparel industry US $ 11.83 billion.

Agus added, the government had carried out various strategic steps in an effort to spur export values especially in the industrial sector. His moves include strengthening the industrial sector through coaching programs to be more competitive and prepare superior products.

"Then, it is necessary to reduce tariffs through the use of free trade agreements, as well as promotion at the international level and support for export financing facilities," Agus said.

Agus gave an example, one of the facilities provided to hoist exports of industrial products, namely through the Special Export Assignment (PKE). PKE is an assignment given by the government to the Indonesian Export Financing Agency (LPEI) to provide export financing for transactions or projects that are commercially difficult to implement, but are deemed necessary by the government to support export policies or programs in the form of a National Interest Account (NIA) program.
