A number of challenges confront the textile industry. However, the Indonesian Textile Association (API) of East Java (East Java) is optimistic that this year's performance will grow to 25 percent.

Chief of API East Java Sherlina Kawilarang stated, the textile world is very close to human life. In daily activities, people need textiles or cloth. Whether in the form of clothing, sheets, towels, or others.

The high growth target makes East Java API must be good at strategy. In order to achieve target, the association then formulates proindustrial steps. One of the most important steps is to stop imports. Both legal and illegal.

"(Market) Indonesian textiles are currently being attacked by imported products. Especially from China and Vietnam, "Sherlina explained.

She suspected that the heavy import was sourced from the Bonded Logistics Center (PLB). Because, supervision in these institutions is weak. Therefore, the system is very easy to be misused.

Another step that the East Java API took to excite the industry was the exhibition. Like other industries, textile sales trends usually increase through exhibitions.

This year API East Java will host a special textile exhibition. It will be the first national scale exhibition held outside Jakarta.

"The plan is for the first quarter of 2020," Sherlina said of the exhibition schedule. Now the East Java API is still negotiating the details of the exhibition.

Speaking of obstacles, Sherlina immediately mentioned MSE as one of the factors inhibiting the growth of the East Java textile industry. Currently four regencies in the East Java ring have a UMK that is much higher than ring one in Central Java and West Java.

"The four districts are industrial enclaves. Namely, Pasuruan, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, and Gresik. As a result, our textile products are unable to compete with Central Java and West Java, "She complained.

Therefore, API will propose several options to the East Java Provincial Government related to MSEs. For labor-intensive industries such as textiles, MSE is a very important factor.

The plan is for API East Java to propose MSME issues specifically for labor-intensive sectors. Another proposal is the application of UMP (provincial minimum wage), not MSE, in the textile industry.

In addition to MSEs, other obstacles relate to protection. Sherlina proposed to the East Java Provincial Government that the expenditure budget of East Java province also be spent on East Java companies. Especially textile shopping.

"Although it is possible that the price of textiles in Central Java is cheaper, from now on we must be accustomed to the love of products from the provinces where we are domiciled. We really want an audience with the governor to talk about it, "She explained.
