The Bangladeshi government offers a number of investment facilities to Indonesian entrepreneurs through the "Meet Bangladesh" event held in Jakarta. A number of investment conveniences are offered, including tax exemptions (tax holidays), permanent residence permit (permanent resident permit) for an investment value of USD 75 thousand, citizenship status for an investment value of USD 500 thousand, and tax incentives for one to seven years.

The variety of conveniences, according to Bangladesh's Ambassador to Indonesia Major General Azmal Kabir, is aimed at increasing the value of foreign investment, particularly from Indonesia.

"I invite all of you to come to Bangladesh and take advantage of various investment facilities in our country," Ambassador Kabir said in Jakarta.

Ambassador Kabir introduced a number of leading investment sectors in Bangladesh, including agribusiness, garments and textiles, the information, communication and technology (ICT) sector, leather crafts, electricity, plastics and ceramics industries.

In the event, one of the businessmen from Indonesia, Teddy Wijaya, said that Bangladesh is one of the countries in South Asia that is not being looked at by investors from Indonesia so that many investment opportunities can be utilized.

Since 2018, Indonesia and Bangladesh have begun preferential trade agreement negotiations on goods (trade in goods). The first negotiations took place on 27 February 2019 in Dhaka, followed by the second negotiations on 22-23 July 2019 in Bali.

Third party talks will resume in Dhaka in mid-January 2020.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that in 2018 the total value of trade between the two countries reached USD 1.97 billion. Of that amount, Indonesia has a surplus of USD 1.79 billion.
