The trade war between the United States (US) and China widens investment opportunities in the footwear industry in Indonesia, and is expected to increase exports. The statement was delivered by the Head of the Ministry of Industry's Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), Eko S.A. Cahyanto.

The Head of BPSDMI revealed, as a labor-intensive and export-oriented sector group, the footwear industry has so far made a significant contribution to the national economy.

This is reflected in the achievement of the shipment value of leather products, leather goods and footwear from Indonesia which was able to penetrate up to USD5.12 billion throughout 2019.

"We remain optimistic, the value of footwear exports will increase this year. Especially with the investment opportunities in the footwear industry in Indonesia which are increasingly wide open after the occurrence of a trade war between China and the United States, "he explained.

Indonesia's footwear industry cannot be underestimated on the world stage. Currently, Indonesia ranks sixth as the largest footwear exporting country in the world after China, Vietnam, Italy, Germany and Belgium.

Then following Indonesia are France, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Spain which fulfill the top 10 footwear exporters in the world.

Furthermore, Indonesia was ranked fourth in the footwear manufacturer with  total of 1.272 million pairs of shoes or 5.3% of world production.

In addition, the average price of Indonesian footwear exports still ranks fifth in the world with value of USD 16.70, which shows Indonesia is able to produce footwear with competitive prices and good quality.
