The policy of controlling imports of textiles and textile products (TPT) at the end of 2019 then began to feel its impact in early 2020. Businesses of importers who used to import textile products began to complain.

Wasekjen III The Association of Indonesian Importers (Ginsi) in the fields of economy, industry and trade Bob Budiman said one example was imported prayer rugs and carpets from China.

He complained that the regulations made by the trade minister had hampered the import of prayer mats and carpets. The point is that companies holding general importers 'and producers' licenses must involve Small and Medium Industries (IKM) in order to meet their needs and must submit the relevant IKM licenses to the Ministry of Trade.

The regulation was stated in Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No.77 / 2019 concerning the Second Amendment to Permendag No.85 / 2015 concerning Provisions on Import of Textiles and Textile Products. This Regulation of the Minister of Trade is a revision of the first amendment to the Minister of Trade Regulation No.85 / 2015 listed in Permendag No.64 / 2017.

"Imports have been hampered since early January 2020," Bob said.

In 2018, BPS recorded imports of non-cotton prayer rugs totaling US $ 1,881 million or around Rp26 billion with a volume of 893.3 tons, China as the only supplier country. This amount is the highest at least in the previous 3 years, in 2016 imports of non-cotton prayer rugs were only US $ 110.46 thousand, around Rp 1.5 billion with a weight of 109.2 tons. In 2017 it rose to Rp 6.6 billion. Suppliers of prayer mats in other countries in small quantities include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Morocco.

Aside from prayer mats, imports of floor mats are also still dominated by China, from other suppliers such as India. Imports of floor carpets are also on an upward trend in 2016, which is still Rp 320.9 million, then in 2018 it jumped to Rp 12.12 billion.

The Advisory Board of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Ade Sudrajat said the domestic industry was able to make and supply rugs and carpets. The industry is spread in West Java.

"The industry is in Majalaya (Bandung), the factory is also in Gedebage, Bandung and many more," said Ade.
