Status of Developed Countries Not Affect the Indonesia-US Textile Business PDF Print E-mail

Changing the status of Indonesia to a developed country does not affect the American-Indonesian textile business. The United States had previously revoked the status of Indonesia from developing countries.

"I don't think the transition to state status will have an effect, America will continue to accept goods from Indonesia. And Indonesia itself wants to buy Cotton from the USA," said the Indonesia Cotton Council International (CCI) Representative Program Anh Dung (Andy) Do, in Solo, Central Java.

He explained the status of developed countries had indeed made Indonesia no longer enjoy a number of facilities from the superpower. However, it will not bring much change to Indonesia.

"Indonesia and America have very good relations in the field of industrial textiles and cotton, Indonesia can still enjoy various export facilities such as those provided when it was still a developing country, depending on negotiations between Jakarta and Washington," Andy added.

On the other hand, the role of President Joko Widodo is also very large in the garment world because it continues to drive the progress of the industry. "The American economy is very good. And many rich people in America. We help each other," he said.

CCI together with the Indonesian Textile Association (API) continues to strive to educate textile industry players in the country.

"We are always committed to increasing public attention on the importance of high quality cotton, especially cotton from America which has been used as a basic material for making materials from various world fashion brands, including in Indonesia," said Andy.
