Shouting Textile Industry Players, People Need Jobs not Consumptive Goods PDF Print E-mail

The government has issued a policy to relax imports amid the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia. However, the policy is considered to make domestic industries increasingly devastated.

Chairman of the West Java Indonesian Textile Association (API) Chandra Setiawan said the government should look at the structure of the national industry before making a policy of relaxing imports.

"Nowadays people need jobs, not cheap goods to be more consumptive," Chandra said

Chandra explained, so far the domestic TPT industry has been stuck for too long with a shortcut solution by opening the import tap, so that the domestic industrial sectors are not growing.

"It should be noted that before we can export we must strengthen our domestic control," he explained.

He hopes the government will not fail to focus by opening the import faucet wider by providing import relaxation at a critical time like now.

"Reduce our dependence on other countries by focusing on the integration of each industry from upstream to downstream, import substitution and employment creation in our own country," concluded Chandra.
