The Ministry of Industry requests the Indonesian Textile Association (API) to encourage its members to produce masks and personal protective equipment (PPE). This is needed to meet the demands of the domestic market and help the needs of medical personnel to deal with patients suffering from the Covid-19 virus.

"We also encourage domestic textile producers to be able to supply PPE and masks. Because, currently we still need quite a lot," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

To help the government fight the Covid-19 virus, the diversification of products carried out by the textile industry is the right step in fulfilling the PPE and mask products that are still high today. Another advantage is the opening of new domestic markets for the national textile industry.

Agus then said that in the next four months, as many as 12 million pieces of PPE were needed. Even if the Corona virus pandemic continues, it is estimated that there is a surge in demand of up to 500 percent.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry has mapped the potential of the domestic market for the PPE industry, including the textile industry that is willing to produce PPE and masks. The various PPE products needed are; clothing, caps, towels, gloves, leg guards, hand protectors and face goggles.

"We continue to actively coordinate with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Health for the smooth distribution and import of raw materials," Agus added.
