The Ministry of Industry requests the Indonesian Textile Association (API) so that its members can produce masks and personal protective equipment (PPE). This is to meet the current high domestic demand, especially to supply the needs of health workers in handling patients exposed to the corona virus (Covid-19).

"In addition to the PPE industry, we also encourage domestic textile producers to participate in supplying PPE and masks. Because, right now we still need quite a lot in dealing with the spread of the corona virus in Indonesia, "said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita ..

In the context of handling Covid-19, product diversification carried out by the textile industry is one of the fast ways to meet the needs of PPE and masks that are very high at this time. "This can be a solution to maintain the performance of the textile industry amid the decline in the domestic market," Agus added.

The Minister of Industry said, in an effort to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, it is projected that up to the next four months as many as 12 million pieces of PPE are needed. "With the current conditions, the possibility of demand can increase up to 100%, even 500%," he said.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry has mapped the potential of the domestic PPE industry, including the textile industry which is willing to produce PPE and masks. PPE is needed, including clothing, caps, towels, gloves, leg guards, hand protectors and face protective glasses (goggles).

"We continue to actively coordinate with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Health for the smooth distribution and import of raw materials," Agus added.
