Textile and Garment Manufacturers Still Continue to Meet Needs of National Masks PDF Print E-mail

The outbreak of covid-19 outbreaks made the demand for masks soar. In order to meet these needs, garment and textile producers are competing to supply them.

One of them is a garment producer, PT Ricky Putra Globalindo Tbk (RICY), which also uses part of its production line for fabric mask production. Tirta Heru Citra, Director of RICY said, the company modified the formation of sewing production equipment to make it suitable for producing masks without adding new machines.

For prices varying per piece around Rp. 5,500 to Rp. 7,500, the company does not seem to limit the order to only a minimum order of around 60 pieces.

Can this mask demand help hoist the garment business that is currently weakening? According to Tirta, the sale of these masks still cannot replace the company's garment sales. "For the production of masks, we only follow the government's suggestion to help cover the people's needs for masks," he explained.

Previously, Rizal Rakhman, Secretary General of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) said the production of masks for the industry had not yet thought of profit. "At this time the perpetrators and textile manufacturers that are full of masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are still in the form of mutual cooperation," he said.

The textile and garment industry does not expect high-grandiose business growth this year. The co-19 pandemic must make producers survive amid market uncertainty, both domestically and abroad.

In terms of investment, according to Rizal, there will be a delay, looking in the mirror last year in the first semester, according to him, industrial sectors such as garments are still enlivened by the expansion of new clothing factories. However, for the present condition, entrepreneurs tend to survive until the economic situation stabilizes.
