Entrepreneurs Support Normalized Economic Activity Back PDF Print E-mail

A number of business actors claimed to agree if the government normalizes economic activity even though the corona virus (Covid-19) has not completely disappeared. However, they requested that the policy be carried out with the strict implementation of the Covid-19 preventive health protocol.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Trade, Benny Soetrisno, considers that even today many people violate the rules of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). Because, people still need a living to continue their lives even in the midst of a pandemic.

"Now there is a plan not to be banned from working at the maximum age of 45 years, that is already true. But the others are slowly opening up to being tightened," he said.

He said the company was ready to make adjustments if the government loosened social restrictions. According to him, the company could not possibly let their employees fall ill.

Therefore, if activities return to normal, he ensures that the company will still comply with Covid-19 preventive health protocols such as using masks, washing hands, keeping a distance, and so on. Although, he realized that his condition would not be as completely normal as before.

"The company can adjust rather than die altogether, indeed it might not be 100 percent but 50 percent is also pretty good, if it's now zero, the automotive sector (utilization) is zero, textiles are 5 percent, electronics might be 30 percent, others will stop," he explained.

In addition, he assessed that the return to normal activities would have a positive impact on economic growth. As is known, in the first quarter of 2020 Indonesia's economic growth fell to 2.97 percent.

In fact, the government stated that in the second quarter of 2020 it would be worse to touch minus because there were social restrictions that impacted the economic downturn.

Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) Shinta Kamdani agrees with the idea of returning activities to normal even though the pandemic is not over.

The reason is, no one can predict when this virus ends. In this uncertainty, people cannot stand by just waiting for the vaccine to be found.

"If we see this cycle, if we wait until the end, finally when? Because in principle until the vaccine is found it will be difficult to say it ended. So we have to live with this virus," he said.

However, he asserted that does not mean employers do not care about the health aspects. Therefore, he assessed that the activity opened normally starts gradually from the green zone region or the positive patient curve of Covid-19 begins to level off.
