Half of Textile Factories Threatened to Close PDF Print E-mail

The three-month corona pandemic has succeeded in the textile industry. As a result of declining demand, production utilization has dropped by almost 90% and causing 50% of textile factories threatened to be permanently closed in September.

The Indonesian Textile Association (API) utilization of large industrial production is only 10% remaining. This causes the company's financial condition to run low. It is estimated, this separate industry can only last until next September.

API Executive Secretary Rizal Tanzil Rakhman said, the pandemic had launched export markets and domestic products. As a national strategic industry that requires a large workforce, this industry needs serious attention from the government.

Therefore, in order to ease his business, some entrepreneurs have asked for the above assistance, easy banking loans, postponed payment of electricity tariffs during April - September and provided Corporate Tax PPH tax relief for 2020. API complained about the rise of important imports from China. This happened after Corona hit the country and caused its domestic demand to fall.

Since production in China has been disrupted, the Association has found 17 containers of textile products coming from China. This number has increased with illegal smuggling. Some of the products are finished goods, so it is increasingly difficult for domestic industries to sell goods. This condition is exacerbated by the sluggish demand for textile products.

For information, China is the largest exporter of textiles and textile products (TPT) to Indonesia. In 2018, the volume of TPT imports from China reached 4.392 tons, up 27.18% compared to 2017 which reached 6.031 tons. Textile imports from China in 2017 surged to 123.29% compared to 2016 which amounted to 2.701 tons.
