The Indonesian Trade Safeguards Committee (KPPI) conducted an investigation into safeguards measures after a surge in imported carpets and textile floor coverings since June 10, 2020.

The KPPI Chairman, Mardjoko, said that from the initial request submitted by the Indonesian Textile Association (API), KPPI found a surge in imported carpets and other textile floor coverings. On the other hand, the KPPI also found preliminary evidence of serious losses or serious losses related to the domestic industry as a consequence of these needs.

According to Mardjoko, serious losses or serious losses can be seen from domestic industry indicators in 2017-2019.

"These indicators, among others, decrease in yields continue to increase due to production volumes and domestic sales volumes, the volume of final purchases or the number of unsold goods, the declining use capacity, the decreasing number of workers, and the decreasing domestic industrial market in the domestic market" , "said Mardjoko.

Other carpet and textile floor covering products include 62 8-digit harmonized system (HS) numbers. This is in accordance with the 2017 Indonesian Customs Tariff Book (BTKI).

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in the last three years (2017-2019), an increase in the volume of imports of carpets and other textile floor coverings with a trend of 25.2 percent.
