The Attorney General's Office (AGO) conducted an examination of three Batam Customs officials related to a case of alleged abuse of authority in textile importation at the Director General of Customs and Excise 2018-2020. The three officials are now in the status of suspects.

Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center, Hari Setiyono, said that the investigation material for the three suspects was related to procedures and requirements for importing goods from abroad. The three suspects were also said to have been questioned about allegations of committing acts not in accordance with applicable regulations.

"The examination of the suspect is carried out in order to find and collect evidence about the process of importing goods from abroad, especially what textiles are and how the terms and procedures are carried out, how are the suspects and entrepreneurs importing textiles, and how should they be in accordance with applicable regulations," said Mr. Hari

Hari revealed, the three suspects examined were the Head of the Customs and Excise Service Section I at the Batam Customs and Excise KPU Customs and Excise Section, the Head of Customs and Excise Services Section II, the Customs and Excise KPU Batam Kamaruddin Siregar and the Head of the Customs and Excise Services Section III Batam, Dedi Aldrian.

Previously, the Attorney General's Office named five suspects in a case of alleged corruption in the abuse of authority in textile imports from 2018 to 2020. Four of them were active officials at the Batam Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

The suspects, said Hari, were the Head of Customs Facilities Services and the Batam Customs and Excise KPU with the initials MM. Then, the Head of Customs and Excise Section of the Batam Customs and Excise Office initials DA, HAW, and KA. The fifth suspect comes from a private party, namely the owner of PT Flemings Indo Batam and PT Garmindo Prima with the initials IR.

In this case, the investigator suspects that there are at least 556 containers in the Batam Customs and Excise area which do not come complete with certain documents. Investigators are still counting on state losses.
