Illegal textile imports continue to be a problem faced by textile industry players in the country. This is because the domestic market itself has enormous potential in the industry.

Regarding textile imports, the following is a number of information obtained from the Indonesian textile association covering the targets of import and anti-smuggling policies.

First, the reduction in the smuggling of textiles and textile products (TPT) and footwear. Second, the recognition of Indonesian brands in the domestic market.

In terms of policies through regulations issued by the government, this means also supporting domestic industries so that they can maintain industrial growth properly, if in the end smuggling or illegal import actions can be reduced or even eliminated.

Third, increasing the competitiveness of textile and footwear products in the domestic market. The rapid flow of imports from abroad related to textile products also certainly puts pressure on the domestic industry and the target of import and anti-smuggling policies should also be seen to increase the competitiveness of products in the domestic market.

Fourth, the more widespread use of local materials and intermediate goods. Optimization of raw materials and finished goods that can be produced by the domestic textile industry so that their use is expanded and dependence on imported goods can be reduced.

In addition, there are also strategies for import and anti-smuggling trade systems, namely as follows: First, restrictions on imports of textile products and leather footwear. Second, diligently routinely to factory outlets (FO) and textile wholesalers. Third, the imposition of a more stringent Indonesian National Standard (SNI) on textile and footwear products. Fourth, the prohibition on the import of free clothing.
