National Gallery of Australia has 2000 Indonesian Textile Collection

Textile collections from all over Indonesia are the latest installation of the Jakarta Textile Museum for the next three weeks. Especially, for the exhibition Meet with Bali: Travel a collector, working together Jakarta Textile Museum with Mosman Art Gallery Sydney.

 

"Australia is home to some of the richest collections of Indonesian textiles in the world," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Gary Quinlan said in a press release on Tuesday (10/7).

 

In the exhibition, textile collections were collected for over 30 years by Australians, Dr. John Yu and Dr. George Soutter. In particular, on their way to Bali and elsewhere in Indonesia.

 

"More than a million Australians visit Indonesia every year, for Dr. Yu and Dr. Soutter, as for many others, the wider Bali for the rest of the world," Quinlan said.

 

Quinlan also claimed to be happy and proud of the Australian galleries and museums throughout this textile collection. As well as, contribute to the knowledge as well as the promotion of fabrics.

 

Overall, the National Gallery of Australia and the Australian Museum have over 2,000 pieces of Indonesian textiles.

 

Dr. John Yu also said that, an art object, part of Australia.

 

Meanwhile, the job executor (Plt) Head of Tourism and Culture of Jakarta, Asiantoro, this exhibition is a real manifestation of Australia and Indonesia.

 

"I hope this will happen love and see to Indonesian traditional textile," timpalnya.

 

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, Dr. John Yu, Katrina Cashman, Assistant Director of Mosman Art Gallery and Dr. Siobhan Campbell, Curator and art specialist from the University of Sydney, held workshops for Indonesian museums and galleries where they shared their expertise in curators, textile care and practice research.

 

Galeri Nasional Australia Memiliki 2000 Koleksi Tekstil Indonesia

 

Koleksi tekstil langka dari seluruh Indonesia jadi instalasi terbaru Museum Tekstil Jakarta selama tiga minggu ke depan. Khususnya, untuk pameran Encounters with Bali: A collector’s journey, kerjasama Museum Tekstil Jakarta dengan Mosman Art Gallery Sydney.

 

"Australia adalah rumah bagi beberapa koleksi terkaya tekstil Indonesia di dunia," kata Duta Besar (Dubes) Australia untuk Indonesia, Gary Quinlan dalam siaran persnya, Selasa (10/7) malam.

 

Dalam pameran tersebut, koleksi tekstil dikumpulkan selama lebih dari 30 tahun oleh warga Australia, Dr John Yu dan Dr George Soutter. Khususnya, dalam perjalanan mereka ke Bali dan tempat lain di Indonesia.

 

"Lebih dari satu juta warga Australia mengunjungi Indonesia setiap tahunnya. Untuk Dr Yu serta Dr Soutter, seperti untuk banyak orang lain, Bali membuka pintu ke pengalaman yang jauh lebih luas terhadap tekstil dan seni di seluruh Indonesia," papar Quinlan.

 

Quinlan juga mengaku senang dan bangga bahwa galeri dan museum Australia menghargai koleksi tekstil ini. Serta, berkontribusi pada pengetahuan juga promosi kain-kain.

 

Secara total, Galeri Nasional Australia dan Museum Australia memiliki lebih dari 2.000 potong tekstil Indonesia.

 

Dr. John Yu sendiri mengatakan bahwa, benda seni tersebut, bagian penting dari budaya di kawasan Australia.

 

Sementara itu, menurut pelaksana tugas (Plt) Kepala Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Jakarta, Asiantoro, pameran ini merupakan manifestasi nyata dari pertukaran budaya dan pariwisata antara Australia dan Indonesia.

 

"Saya berharap pameran ini akan menghidupkan kecintaan dan dukungan terhadap tekstil tradisional Indonesia," timpalnya.

 

Sebelum pembukaan pameran, Dr John Yu, Katrina Cashman, Asisten Direktur Mosman Art Gallery dan Dr Siobhan Campbell, Kurator dan spesialis seni Indonesia dari University of Sydney, mengadakan lokakarya untuk praktisi museum dan galeri Indonesia dimana mereka berbagi keahlian di bidang kurator, perawatan tekstil dan praktek penelitian.
