The gap between the textile industry and fashion design still occurs. This causes the products produced by the local textile industry not to be absorbed in the country.

"Actually, this fashion design is driving the textile industry because it is upstream. Fashion design is creating trends. If it does not match trends, we are afraid that what we produce is not suitable for the market," said Advisors to the All Indonesian Textile Experts Association (IKATSI) Lukas Lestiyana Prawoto at the signing of the MOA with the Faculty of Engineering, Surabaya State University (Unesa) in Surabaya.

Lukas added, so far the textile needs for the fashion industry are still many important products. How to buy domestic textile products?

"Cooperation between the government, the industry and education world is needed. Linking and matching is one of the solutions so that products are based on domestic production," he said. He hopes students or young designers can raise the wisdom of local culture so that the domestic industry is also elevated.

Second, with links and equivalents there is a process of transformation of practical education. For example, the use of the term between the world of fashion and the textile industry which often creates difficulties.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Unesa, Maspiyah added, the MOA was carried out in the framework of implementing the curriculum that had been launched by the Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia. In the independent curriculum students can do activities outside of campus for 2 semesters.

"Implementation of our curriculum is one of the choices apprenticeship activities in the fashion industry, both boutiques and garments in Surabaya and East Java. While helping to work with IKATSI, we will discuss about internship students in industries that are members of IKATSI," he said.

In addition, specifically for vocational programs, the D4 Study Mode Design program must be match with industry. The collaboration can be started from the preparation of curriculum, acceptance of internship students, industry guest lecturers, conducting collaborative research with industry, community service activities, and recruitment of employees from Unesa preparation if needed by industry.

Maspiyajambah, actually before the signing of this MoA, there had been implementation between the institutions. On July 16, IKATSI had become a resource person for a seminar or online lecture on the topic of Sustainable Fashion, which was attended by students, lecturers, alumni and the public.
